AN ambitious project working with young singers in and around Thetford reaches a climax on Friday when over 100 voices come together to tell the story of everyday lives in the Living Songs Concert, to be given in the Main Hall of Charles Burrell High School, starting at 7pm.

The ThetfordVoices project has worked at a number of levels over the last 15 months, including the delivery of training to class teachers keen to introduce singing in schools.

In preparation for the concert, visiting tutors have worked with eight junior schools in the area in regular Singing Together sessions for years 4-6 or specific concert-based rehearsals. There have also been two very successful holiday workshops which have added movement to the music of many of the chosen songs.

On Friday children from this programme are joined by the adults of Thetford Singers, conducted by Christopher Wray, by soloists and the band Every Purpose. Together, guided by musical director David O'Neale and producer Laura Middleweek , they take us on a musical journey from the cradle to the grave. The songs in this anthology programme come from places as far apart as Scotland and Brazil; there are lullabies, folk songs and numbers from stage musicals; styles range from five part harmony to rap. All are lively and Living Songs.

The ThetfordVoices programme has been put together by Thetford Music Project with the help of funding from the national charity Youth Music. Local support for Friday's concert has come in the form of sponsorship from Baxters Healthcare, the John Jarrold Trust and Breckland District Council.

A few tickets (£3; £2 concessions) are still available for the concert from Scotts Opticians and the ThetfordVoices Box Office (01842 820060).
