EAST Harling recreation ground's 60th birthday is being marked with a weekend of sport, music and fun.

Highlights of the event, which runs from Friday, Saturday and Sunday, are a beer festival, open air concert, fun day and lots of sport.

The recreation ground was opened on 5th September 1948 as a 'living' memorial to those local people who lost their lives in the two world wars, and many months of hard work were needed to turn a rough field into a grassed area suitable for playing sport.
