Franko Fraize is hoping his set at the Radio 1 Big Weekend will open some doors after he went down a storm.

The Thetford musician appeared on the BBC Introducing stage on Sunday afternoon, and managed to get a big crowd going with his set of upbeat tracks.

He was joined on stage by his band and vocalist Tony Cornwall.

He said: “It was unreal. I was hoping for a good crowd and it was amazing. All the crowd were participating and the atmosphere was incredible.

“There was lots of love and support afterwards, and Huw Stephens gave it a mention on his Radio 1 show later in the day.”

The set was closed by new track ‘Running’, which had the crowd bouncing, and was filmed and shown on the BBC’s iPlayer.

Franko is hoping his moment in the spotlight at the event - which drew 50,000 people - would help him get similar slots at festivals later this summer.

There were also hints of a possible session at the BBC’s Maida Vale off the back of his performance.

The BBC has also been filming a documentary on Franko in the run-up to the festival.

Called Making It Big, the programme will air on Friday night at 8pm on BBC One in the East, and is presented by Huw Stephens.
