Talented young Thomas Simpson, from Thetford, has the chance to do what every young boy wants to do - be a professional footballer!

Thomas, seven, who was spotted playing in a tournament less than a year ago, has signed for Cambridge United's Centre Of Excellence.

From September this young startlet will be playing the likes of West Brom, Crewe, Gillingham, Millwall and Southend to name just a few.

Thomas has already spent a year playing up an age group and has been involved in games against such professional clubs as well as coming out of Admiral's Junior School in Thetford on a Wednesday as part of an innovovative School's Project to train and learn about scientific aspects of the game.

Cambridge United's Youth Development Officer Tom Pell talked about Thomas at Monday night's charity game in which Dion Dublin and Dave Kitson played.

"We saw Thomas play for Thetford Indies in a festival last summer and he had all the attributes that we look for in a young player. His co-ordination, balance and natural technique give him every chance to excel within our youth set-up.

"Our hope for all our young players is not just that they develop to play for Cambridge United first team but that they go on to better things. Seeing a Premiership footballer on the pitch tonight who has come through the ranks at this club shows all our young players what a massive opportunity they have."

If you would like the chance to emulate the success of young Thomas, Cambridge United are holding trials for all levels of their Youth Development System.
