Young athletes from Thetford Athletic Club had a very successful day at the Norfolk County Track and Field Championships held at Great Yarmouth, with everyone returning with a medal or a personal best performance.

In the U11 boys, Joseph Nicholson and Lewis Savage showed their excellent all-round ability, competing in three events with great success.

Joseph finished fifth in the 80m sprint with a PB time of 13.6 secs, and came home with a silver medal in the 600m (2:44.2) and bronze in the long jump (3.21m, PB). Lewis crossed the line in seventh place in the 80m (13.8), collected the gold for the 600m (2:10.7) and jumped 2.99m in the long jump to finish in fifth place.

Middle distance runner Grace Humby had an excellent run in the U15 girls 1500m race to cross the line in a PB time of 5:24.8 and was rewarded with a silver medal.

Competing in both the long jump and 100m sprint in the U17 girls, Elisha Bowers jumped well to achieve a PB of 3.27m and sixth place in 17.1.

In the same age group thrower Georgina Howe was delighted to come home with a pair of gold medals for her sterling performances in the hammer (39.68m) and discus (30.08m). Her achievement was matched by club mate and fellow thrower Oliver Thompson in the U15 boys, whose 36.25m hammer throw and 29.02m discus, both personal bests, earned him two well-deserved gold medals.

Also competing in the U15 boys, up-and-coming thrower Daniel Howe was on great form, achieving two personal best throws with a silver medal in the hammer (22.02m) and bronze in the discus (19.82m).

In the U17 men's events, friendly rivalry between Joe Kirton and Jonny Mead in the 1500m spurred Joe on to a PB time of 4:38.5, but he was just edged into fourth place, as Jonny made the podium to collect the bronze with a time of 4:36.1, along with a silver medal in the 400m, crossing the line in a PB time of 55.0.

Club-mate Ryan Skipp collected the gold in the 400m and continued to push himself up the UK rankings, with a PB time of 51.7. Competing for the first season in this age group, Ryan has made a tremendous start. Will Davies had a great run in the 100m, finishing in 12.3, to bring home a silver medal.

All the athletes and coaches have put a huge effort into training for the track and field competitions and it was evident in the fantastic performances and results at Great Yarmouth.
