Thetford Ladies 5, Norwich 1

A strong Thetford Ladies first team went out against Norwich City to shake off the cobwebs of summer, and smashed the opposition 5-1.

City opened the scoring with a successful flick, but Thetford came straight back, with Dawn Heavey converting a short corner to equalise. Little found its way through defenders Chris Church, Paula Scott and Sophie Kelly.

Thetford moved the ball well, with Karen Hodgkinson and Tracey Newman clicking back together very well to make some excellent runs. Charlie Harwood made excellent tackles along the left.

Kathy Hammond slotted the ball home easily for her first goal, Newman was in the perfect spot to finish a cross from Hodgkinson, and Heavey made sure of her second goal with another powerful strike.

Hammond tapped home a fifth goal from an Isabel Cockayne shot from the top of the D.

With this great performance in the bag, Thetford Ladies are keen to get on with their season.

Thetford Town Hockey Club trains every Wednesday from 7-9pm at the leisure centre. New members are needed, so please go along.

Thetford Town 9, Sudbury III 0

Town's first friendly fixture of the season saw them instantly put under pressure from an aggressive first 10 from Sudbury.

Excellent keeping from Avery gave Thetford the time to gain some composure and start to put together some flowing hockey.

Sudbury keeper Underwood was in excellent form and managed to keep Thetford at bay until a through-ball from Godbold to Scott saw the ball rifle into the back board.

Tim Thompson was in excellent form and managed to link well with Snow, ending in two clinical finishes from Thompson.

A foul in the D saw a penalty flick awarded only to see Godbold push high and wide, luckily a break moments later gave Godbold the opportunity to trickle the ball under a stranded keeper.

Buzzer quickly added to the score line with a ferocious slap from the top of the D. Thetford really started to pick up pace and slick, fast and accurate passing, ranging from the defence to the forwards, enabled Skitmore to round off the first half 7-0 by getting his brace.

The second half saw Thetford start to tire and the return to the long ball. Debutants Chisman and Stavros blended well into an already-formed team and later linked well with Godbold to slot in his second of the fixture.

Blower, on the left, worked tirelessly and was rewarded with

a square pass from Godbold to

fire home.

An excellent start to the season.
