After two postponements, Thetford's tennis players at last got their 2009 Norfolk and Suffolk League campaign under way when Wickhambrook were the visitors to the King's House Gardens.

Although keenly contested, the match was a relatively comfortable success for the hosts. Thetford captain Colin Chamberlain partnered Darrol Satchell. Despite seeming to be in control of their first set against A Forbes and S Collins, the set slipped away.

However, this setback served only to enhance the Thetford pair's determination as they took the next set before winning both sets against A Sanders and M Dickens for the loss of just three games.

The success of Chamberlain and Satchell was mirrored by Thetford's other pair of Phil Crisp and Colin Walsh. Crisp and Walsh did not really get into top gear against Sanders and Dickens but nevertheless they won both sets.

A close first set against Forbes and Collins was then lost before an excellent performance in the second set to seal an encouraging victory for Thetford.

Scores: C Chamberlain and D Satchell halved with A Forbes and S Collins 5-7, 6-4 and beat A Sanders and M Dickens 6-1, 6-2. P Crisp and C Walsh beat A Sanders and M Dickens 6-3, 6-3 and halved with A Forbes and S Collins 4-6, 6-2.
