Waites hits six for Brandon

Only one game survived in the Anglian Combination Premier Division this weekend, but it was a day to remember for Brandon marksman John Waites.

He hit six goals in Town's home 8-0 demolition of Watton United in the Premier Division.

Waites' double hat-trick was added to by Daniel Maister and Richard Williams and leaves Brandon third in the table, among a group of up to eight who could claim the title.

North Walsham still top the Premier Division (32 points from 15 games), followed by Beccles Town (26 from 13) and Brandon (24 from 17).

This week Mattishall are the visitors to Brandon with a 2pm kick-off.

A WEEK after an embarrassing defeat at Hempnall, Brandon restored their pride with an 8-0 thrashing of local rivals Watton to leap up to third in the table. Brandon were seeking to halt a run of four defeats - and did it in style.

Nathan Birch saw his header well saved as the tempo increased. Town took the lead when a Waites shot from a narrow angle deceived the keeper. The lead was doubled soon after when Daniel Malster headed his first goal for the senior side from an excellent Proctor free-kick. Peckham had an effort cleared off the line as Town looked to finish off the visitors.

The third came five minutes before the break as Skipper Williams rose all alone to convert another Proctor dead-ball.

Waites then completed a first-half hat-trick as he benefitted from an Edwards through-ball followed by a penalty after a clear hand-ball.

The second half started in similar vein as Waites added his fourth after good work from Edwards.

Two more from Waites midway through the half, when supplied by Proctor and Bland, gave him a double hat-trick. No doubt the visitors were relieved to see him replaced in the last quarter.

The defence held firm as the visitors sought a consolation but Birch mopped up most of the attacks and Corston had no intention of being beaten.
