THETFORD'S men's tennis team finished a thoroughly enjoyable 2009 season with Norfolk &Suffolk League Division Three matches, home and away against Haverhill within three days of each other.
The results mean that Thetford finish as runners-up in the third division of the Norfolk and Suffolk League.
Unfortunately there will almost certainly be no promotion to the second division due to a decision at the league's annual meeting to have a one up/one down promotion/relegation system this year.
Haverhill fielded very strong teams in both matches. Thetford performed creditably in a six sets to two defeat in the away match before securing a fine 4-4 draw in the return fixture at the King's House Gardens.
Scores (away match): Colin Chamberlain and Colin Walsh lost to P Cannon and A Fowle 4-6, 2-6 and beat N Fitch and R Tobin 6-2, 6-4. Phil Crisp and Darrol Satchell lost to N Fitch and R Tobin 2-6, 0-6 and lost to P Cannon and A Fowle 4-6, 1-6.
Scores (home match): Colin Chamberlain and Colin Walsh halved with N Fitch and D Bish 2-6, 6-1 and beat P Cannon and R Tobin
