The Brecks Indoor Bowls Club, based at Breckland Leisure Centre, celebrated the conclusion of its second year with honours at the recent county finals.

Malcolm Struthers, Michael Scarborough and Roger Barnbrook won a closely-fought final to carry off the men's triples trophy.

The men's league team continued their march up the county leagues by convincingly winning the Division Four trophy and gaining promotion to Division Three.

The club has 200 members but newcomers are needed to build on its recent success. New members need not be experienced bowlers as the club has six qualified coaches. The club also has a junior section and does work with local schools too.

Brecks IBC is holding a series of coaching evenings aimed at providing new or novice bowlers with an introduction to the sport.

Club chairman Roger Barnbrook said: “The impression of the sport of bowls is that it is only a game for the old and sedentary. This is a complete misconception - at Brecks IBC we have members playing competitively into their 80s but we also have members as young as 11.

“Bowls is ideal for the sportsman or woman who has played a sport that requires a high level of fitness or mobility and are now looking for an alternative but still competitive sport.”

All are welcome at the indoor club at the Breckland Leisure Centre, Croxton Road, Thetford. The coaching will take place on Tuesdays 7-9 from July 1 to 29.

The cost of each two-hour session is £5 and the course is free to under 18s. Register with Arthur Lacey on 07882 330452.
