Thetford Golf Club held its final monthly Winter Pro-Am pairs event of the season recently.
There is an Am/Am event, a Pro/Am event and the prosfessionals play an individual medal. There were 92 players in total with 14 pros taking part.
In the Pro-Am there were the usual suspects at the top of the leaderboard. Lawrence Dodd and Kevin Earp played in the same four-ball and after a few twists and turns they eventually tied on two under 70.
Having started on the sixth hole, Kevin took the initiative and got to four under par by the time he had reached the 18th tee thanks to birdies at six, eight, nine, 10 and 15. At this stage he led by one shot after Lawrence had secured birdies at six, 12, 13, 14 and 15 but had bogeyed eight and 11.

However on the run-in, Kevin dropped shots at 18 and two, whilst Lawrence dropped only one shot at the third to drop back into the eventual tie.
Starting on the other side of the course, two-time winner Paul Maddy started with two dropped shots.

However, he showed great character by then birdying 17, five and six to get to two under. From this position, Paul usually finishes strongly - however this month he bogeyed eight and 10 and had to settle for a 73 and third place.
Kevin and Lawrence also took the top two spots in the Pro-Am event. However Kevin's partner Sean Payne proved the real difference as he produced five nett birdies with his 11 shots to shoot a nett 63 and open up a clear six shot win. Back on 69, Lawrence and partner Des Halil, both from Thetford, did just enough to pip two other pairings for second place.
In the Am/Am event it was the usual close affair. This month the winners came from Newmarket and it was their club secretary Matt Hartley and his partner Lee Allen whose 69 was enough to win, although only on countback.
This was due totally to Lee's birdie on the 13th their last hole and not due to the fact that Matt was one of the secretaries that very kindly gave Thetford a courtesy four-ball for their Red Nose charity auction.
The unlucky runners-up were Cyril Williams and, one of last month's triumphant Am/Am pairing, Gary Borthwick.
