THETFORD hosted local rivals Mundford on a sunny but extremely windy Sunday afternoon and gained their first Sunday League win of the season by 36 runs.

Captain Karl Bryanton won the toss and elected to bat first - however this looked a silly idea as Mundford held onto their early catches to leave Thetford at 31-4.

A patient fifth-wicket stand of 56 between Andy Kerling (30) and Nicky Shepherd (26) gave Thetford a chance of posting a reasonable total.

The wind played havoc with a Bryanton smash down the ground which was going for a certain maximum only to blow backwards and end up in Matt Allsop's hands.

Jack Lingard (22no) hit some valuable late runs before a last-wicket stand was ended by a run out.

In reply, Thetford got a strong start thanks to Lingard (3-4) and Jason Peters (1-29).

Peters was first to rattle Robin Yates' bails then Lingard ripped through the top order with one stump-breaking delivery depositing T Price and another yorker getting rid of Daniel McColl lbw.

Leg spinner Liam Conroy (4-14) then made up for a failure with the bat by taking out the middle order.

Despite opening youngster A Burt (37no) batting all the way through and being the only batsman to apply himself on the front foot, Thetford wrapped up their first Sunday League win by 36 runs.
