Thetford Town return to the comforts of home looking to end a three-match losing streak on Saturday.

The Brecklanders lost 2-1 at Walsham-le-Willows at the weekend, following on from a 3-1 home defeat to Felixstowe & Walton United and a narrow 2-1 home loss to higher-level Dereham Town in the Norfolk Senior Cup quarter-finals.

Seventh-placed Stanway Rovers travel to Mundford Road on Saturday, with victory potentially propelling them as high as third place in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table.

Mark Scott’s side found themselves on the back foot right from the start at Walsham-le-Willows, with only good goalkeeping from Scott Cruickshank and poor finishing from the Walsham forward keeping the scores even.

Thetford nearly took the lead against the run of play when James Dean cut in from the left and shot across the keeper only to see his shot rebound off the post.

Walsham took the lead in the 22nd minute when a Willows forward shot across goal and found the bottom corner of the net, with the hosts maintaining the lead through to half-time.

Willows started the second like the first, putting Town under pressure, and doubled their lead when a free-kick on the edge of the box was floated over the wall.

Town made a couple of changes on 68 minutes and this seemed to lift the team, at last putting Walsham under pressure and on 88 minutes Ben Anderson was fouled in the box leaving Dean to convert the penalty.

Thetford continued to press and in stoppage time James Pipe was brought down in the area only for the referee to ignore the appeals.
