Brantham Athletic 2 Thetford Town 0: Wood helps make it an unhappy afternoon for former club

Thetford Town lost for the second weekend running in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, going down 2-0 at Brantham.
Town went behind on 37 minutes when a free-kick wasn’t dealt with and Jack Marshall scrambled the ball home.
Former Thetford striker Andrew Wood doubled the home side’s advantage just before the hour mark.

Town, who are now fifth from bottom in the table, welcome second placed Godmanchester Rovers to Mundford Road on Friday evening before visiting Walsham le Willows on Boxing Day (11am).
Swaffham Town missed a chance to close the gap on second placed Mulbarton Wanderers to just four points when lost a tight top of the table clash at Shoemakers Lane 1-0.
The Pedlars are now 10 points adrift, albeit with four games in hand, after a late goal from substitute Tony Oliver settled the game.
It was not a good day for football, with the wind and rain making it tough going for both teams.
Two top class saves from Tommy Rix kept the visitors at bay although Swaffham had the better of the first half and should have put their chances away.
The visitors finally found the mark with four minutes of normal time remaining, with Oliver’s scrappy goal sufficient to claim all three points.
The Pedlars will have to wait until April for the return game at Mulbarton and the opportunity to balance the books.
They are now fourth in the league and have another tough game on Saturday at home to seventh-placed Lakenheath.
There is also Boxing Day action at Shoemakers Lane with the 11am kick-off for the local derby clash against Downham Town.
Thursday evening saw the Under-18s set the stage for Saturday’s game as they clinched three points through a Nico Pates goal against Mulbarton Wanderers to close the year in mid-table.
It was a day of surprises in the First Division of the Anglian Combination as the top three sides all went down to defeat.
Leaders Mundford lost 2-1 at Attleborough Town thanks to Callum Kindred’s double. Ben Coe got Mundford’s reply.
Second-placed Yelverton lost 4-3 at Stalham Town while third placed Easton were hammered 4-0 at home by Aylsham.
Jack Flynn and Matthew Johnson got the goals in East Harling’s 2-1 win at Bungay Town whilst Thetford Rovers won 3-0 at Fakenham Town Reserves.
Watton put more distance between themselves and the bottom two as they eased their way to a 3-0 win at home to Reepham Town, with Ben Childerhouse, Ty Bond and Callum Edge all on the scoresheet.
Swaffham Town Reserves, who were without a game in Division Three, lead the way on goal difference going into the festive break, although closest rivals Beccles Caxton and Heacham both have games in hand.
Bridgham United beat the horrible weather conditions and their opposition Dereham Taverners Reserves with a good team performance, romping home 5-0.
Bridgham were 1-0 up inside two minutes when Connor McCartney curled a free kick into the top corner. In the 41th minute it was 2-0 when Tom Wood fired his shot into the bottom corner of the net to cap a good half.
One minute into the second half it was 3-0 when Jordan Mole cleverly flicked home the ball after a Wood pass. Wood then saw another chance well saved and a goal disallowed for a tight offside decision whilst Mark Dolman went close twice as Bridgham pushed for more goals.
Another goal did come in the 72nd minute when McCartney produced a great cross for Watts to tap in for 4-0. Bridgham made it 5-0 in the 76th minute when from a Mole pass man-of-the-match McCartney scored with a shot into the corner of the net to complete a good end to their final game in 2018 for Bridgham.
