Thetford Town made it three straight wins in Division One of the Norfolk Alliance to move up to second place in the table, just behind fellow new boys Bradfield.

They made the long trip to the Denes Oval to take on Lowestoft and completed a dominant six wicket win after blowing the hosts away with the ball, dismissing them for just 121.

Liam Conroy stuck the hosts in and from the very start Joe Hills (5-0-20-2) and Lewis Greyson (9-1-29-2) had them in disarray.

New signing Chris White showed his worth with a devastating spell of bowling (10-0-36-4) as Lowestoft were bowled out cheaply.

Thetford again got off to a positive start, with the openers putting on 40 for the first wicket. Liam Conroy fell for 18 but Ryan Conroy (34) and Tristan Caley (16) were cruising along and got their side all the way up to 84.

With Thetford looking to seal a nine wicket win, suddenly the game changed with three wickets falling for two runs. But there was no panic and vice-captain Neil Lockwood (19) and Craig Baulch (17) steered Thetford home in the 27th over.

Thetford’s next challenge is an away fixture at Stow on Saturday.

It was an excellent day all-round for the club, with Town A (284-9) beating Hales & Loddon (175) in Division Six.

Another great performance from Thetford saw them take another maximum 25 points from the game.

Hales’ skipper called correctly at the toss and put Thetford into bat but a great start from the top three meant Thetford raced to 81-1 off the first 10 overs and pushed on all the way to a massive 284 by the end.

Darren Newey (59), Mick Piggott (77) and man-of-the-match Gavin Siriwardena with 42 not out were the main contributors.

Thetford’s bowlers were soon amongst the wickets. Hales’ number three, 15-year-old Matthew Buckingham who was dropped a few times but went on to make 73, was the only batsman to note, Thetford wrapped the game up in the 37th over with Ray Smeed (4-31) and Siriwardena (3-20) the pick of the bowlers.

Next for the A side comes Bradfield at the Mundford Road ground on Saturday.
