Thetford Golf Club’s Mail on Sunday Classic men’s team rolled on to round three with another impressive display on Sunday.

Entertaining the team from The Suffolk GC the hosts had to give plenty of strokes and were made to fight hard but ultimately all the home players prevailed by the time they reached the 17th green.

Ross Sanford, Mark Henfield, Andrew Horsburgh and Peter Allott all wrapped up their wins there and anchor man Dan Traher completed the 5-0 result with a 4 and 2 win sealed on the 16th green.

Team captain Kevin Cooke and his squad must now wait until March 13 for the other second-round ties in this national competition to be completed before they know who they will face in the third round.

Thetford’s Daily Mail Ladies’ Foursomes pairing of Heather Keeble and Sue Pitcher had to give 11 strokes but they still managed to beat their Swaffham opponents Amanda Bloomfield and Stephanie Ashton two and 1.

The final round of the club’s Winter League Foursomes was won by Mark Davis and Dean Scott with 37 points, two more than David Hudson and Mick Maskell with brothers Paul and Simon Moore third with 34, beating Kevin Cooke and Ross Sanford on countback.

Other scores: 31 Brian How & Matt Wabe; Phil Beer & Pat Gould; 30 Mark Lingard & Tim McAlinden; Matt Harben & Mark Henfield; 29 Chris Evans & David Goddard.

Overall, with four scores counting from the six-event League, the winners were Jeremy Campbell and Nicholas Murgolo. They had built up a big enough lead after five rounds to cling on to overall victory by two points from the fast-finishing Kevin Cooke & Ross Sanford. Campbell/Murgolo ended with 137 points, with Cooke/Sanford on 135 and How/Wabe third on 132.
