AFTER another fine win for Thetford Sunday, victory in their final game away to Castle Acle this weekend will see them finish as Division Three champions.

Thetford enjoyed a comfortable win away to North Runcton - mainly thanks to Liam Conroy - to maintain their position at the top of the table.

On a good batting wicket Thetford won the toss and decided to bat first.

Thetford started badly when Karl Harris was bowled by James in the first over but this brought the in-form Ryan Conroy to the crease and he, along with Andy Kerling, steadied the innings by putting on a partnership of 67 at a good rate before Kerling was caught in the slips for 20.

Conroy was joined by brother Liam and together the pair continued to push the score on, taking the score past 100 before Ryan Conroy was caught in the covers, but not before making another half-century.

Two further quick wickets fell when Nicky Shepherd (6) was plum lbw, closely followed by Mark Fowler who went first ball.

Liam Conroy continued to bat well and with the support of Simon Richards the total was pushed on past 200.

With Richards (13) being bowled in the last over, Conroy finished 88 not out and Thetford's final total was 209.

With a good bowling attack Thetford felt confident of defending their total but they found it tough going at the start with North Runcton's opening pair of Harvey and Major frustrating the Thetford bowlers.

It wasn't until the 20th over that Thetford made the breakthrough when spinner Liam Conroy trapped Harvey leg before for 18.

This seemed to spark Thetford into life and in the following over another wicket fell when Skipper was run out for a duck.

However, Major continued to plough his steady furrow and he made a deserved 50 before he was caught and bowled by Conroy a few balls later.

This prompted a collapse in the home side's middle and lower order as a procession of wickets fell at short intervals, the bowling credits going to Liam Conroy - who finished with a haul of six wickets for a cost of just 17 runs.

In addition, good work in the field by Nathan Coleman and then David Anderson brought success with a couple of run-outs, and the home side ended up being skittled out for 103, after being 76-0.
