Thetford have escaped relegation from Norfolk Alliance Division Three after West Norfolk League champions Narborough couldn't take up their promotion place.

Thetford CC youth development officer and committee member Peter Terry said: “We're all very happy to remain where we are for the next season.

“We all feel last season we didn't do ourselves justice - a lot of people under-performed and under-achieved.

“It's an ideal opportunity to stay where we are and prove we are worthy to be there. We're hopeful of getting some new players and strengthening the squad,” he added.

Because of the proposed re-organisation of the Alliance, Thetford would not have been relegated into the Norfolk League but might have been put in a lower division of the new-look Alliance.

Narborough had applied to go up, but were told that their lack of shower facilities would preclude them from joining Division Three.

The club has plans to install showers before next season, but they would not have been able to meet the Alliance deadline

of September 30 for the work to be done.

The decision does not affect any other promotion and relegation issues in the Alliance, however, Narborough are set to be admitted to one of the new Alliance divisions.
