RUGBY: Thetford travelled to Diss for their first game of the season. They were met by a strong Diss II side and from the start their experience showed with several good forward drives.

Unperturbed, Thetford stood firm with debutant and Dexter's man-of-the-match Jason Lumbard showing that he is a young man for the future.

Diss scored their first try after 20 minutes with another strong drive from their forwards.

This was followed by another try shortly before half-time, making the score 17-3.

Diss introduced fresh legs for the second half and although Thetford tackled well they were unable to stop Diss scoring further tries as Thetford tired.

Thetford's try came from a well-worked centre move and was finished off by Adam Harper.

Captain Ollie Taylor said: “I was very pleased with the players, especially the front row of Ian Wallace and Phil Williams.”

The clubhouse has undergone extensive refurbishment inside and has a new roof. This has been possible by new sponsor Dexters Buildings Products.

Saturday sees the first XV at home in a cup game against Burnham-on-Crouch and the Heathens against Thurston II, ko 3pm. Anybody interested in playing rugby should call Ollie Taylor on 079474429.
