THETFORD Town's long away trip last night to fourth-place Halstead, which Thetford boss Mick Money had had predicted would be a hard game, ended in a 4-1 defeat.

Town play their last home game of the Ridgeons Division One season against Long Melford on Friday (7.45pm).

Last Saturday Thetford lost 3-1 to hosts Gorleston.

They started the game in the worst possible manner, going a goal behind as early as the third minute.

Keeper Terry had already saved a volley from Hunter but from the corner Thompson scored with a close-range header.

After 10 minutes a Campbell skimmer went just wide. Gorleston increased their lead when Lambert slotted home from close range after Thetford failed to clear their lines.

Campbell had another long-range effort but although it was well struck it was wide.

Terry made an excellent save with his legs for Town when Butler was put clean through.

Both Atterton and Campbell had reasonable efforts for Thetford and Hunter was wasteful for Gorleston after good build-up play.

Tanti's goal-bound effort from Clayton's corner looked as if it was handled but the ref waved away all appeals.

Giacomelli had to be on his guard to head over his own bar from a Howes header.

On 64 minutes Mick Money made a triple substitution and soon reaped the benefits. Simon Mann found space down the left and following a cross the home keeper fumbled and Campbell was able to slot the ball home at the second opportunity.

This seemed to wake Gorleston up again. Howes flicked a header just wide and Butler half-volleyed wide.

It was now an open game with Thetford playing their best football of the afternoon but with no real end product.

Taylor went on a good run and squared for Gorleston's top scorer Hunter to net.

Final score: Gorleston 3, Thetford 1
