After the previous week's victory, Thetford carried on with their indifferent season, with a defeat to visitors Swaffham in this mid-table Alliance Division Three clash.

Thetford won the toss and chose to bat first, which seemed to be the wise choice on the hottest day of the year so far.

However, a flurry of top order wickets from Swaffham pace men M Annakin (4-48) and M Smith (4-43), proved to be the pivotal moment, despite being so early in the match.

Liam Conroy, Matt Terry, Darren Newey and Ryan Conroy all fell within 14 runs of each other, leaving the hosts on 42 for four.

Now it was the job of Andy Kerling and old stalwart Steve Conroy to try and make the best of a bad situation.

With sensible batting and good running from Conroy, the pair put on a partnership of 78, with Kerling falling first for 44.

Conroy (38) fell soon after, setting up a flurry of late hitting from the lower order.

Contributions from Danny Phelps, Craig Newey, Colin Tyms and brilliant 22 from number 10, Lewis Greyson, nudged the score to 179 all out, with Swaffham taking the final wicket in the penultimate over.

The Swaffham chase started as poorly as the Thetford innings, losing Wayne Hardy in the third over after gloving D Anderson (1-29) behind.

The next wicket soon followed, as Michael Eagle smashed Liam Conroy (1-36) through mid-wicket, only for Steve Conroy to take a magnificent low, diving catch.

The wickets dried as the runs flowed, with Colin Yates and Anthony Reeve providing some massive hitting.

This was until the introduction of M Terry (3-34), who took the scalp of Yates, hitting a low catch to Tyms. Danny Phelps then bowled Reeve (68), giving Thetford a glimmer of hope.

Despite more wickets falling, it was to be too little too late, as Swaffham picked the runs off with 14 overs to go, ending on 182 for seven.
