With all the Ridgeons Division One fixtures put on ice yet again last weekend it is proving a particularly frustrating time for mid-table Thetford Town.

The last time they played, way back on Tuesday December 29, they held leaders Great Yarmouth to a draw.

But since then they haven't been able to build on that great result as their fixture against Diss last weekend and Saturday's scheduled home game with Downham were both postponed - and they have not been able to train.

Thetford boss Mark Scott said: “From our point of view, it's very frustrating and disappointing for us. It's frustrating for every team but once you have had a bit of a run and have a good result you want to get that continuity.”

“We haven't got indoor facilities so we haven't been able to train, which has been a bit of a nightmare.

“We are hoping to secure some facilities this week so we can get to do something!”

Originally scheduled to have a blank week on Saturday, Thetford will now host (weather willing) Halstead in a rearranged fixture.

The visitors are in sixth place, five places higher.

Scott said: “On paper it looks a very tough game and we could have done with playing the other games first but the lads are desperate to play so we have to take what we can get. Ideally, we want to get the lads training this week.”

He said that fitness might be an issue after such a long break but felt “everybody's in the same boat so we'll see what happens”.

He was very proud of his side for drawing with leaders Yarmouth: “It was a difficult game but the character of the lads and the camaraderie is fantastic. They defended fantastically and tried to hit them on the counter attack.”

Thetford are clearly capable of giving any side in the division a run for their money, as shown by not only the Yarmouth result but also drawing with then leaders Clacton earlier in the season.
