Thetford Town Men 4, Dereham IV 1

Thetford Town Men's first Division 4NE game of the season began well as they beat Dereham. They started brightly with some good 'pass and move' hockey.

This led to a foul in the D by Dereham leaving McMurtary to fire in low into the bottom right-hand corner. Hero turned villain moments later when a defensive mistake led to a bobbled shot deceiving McMurtary.

The second half saw the blistering heat take its toll on

the Dereham side so Thetford pressed on.

MoM Junior was instrumental in cutting out any attacks the away team may have had.

Thetford came close early on in the second half when Harper picked out Godbold in the D, only for his shot to be shanked wide of the keeper.

Thetford piled on the pressure, a deflected shot from Blower had the keeper stranded for Godbold to push home.

Superior fitness from Hooton down the right meant that a third was on the cards.

A lobbed clearance from the keeper gave Godbold the chance to nip behind the defence and place in the net.

Harper came close late in the second half when Pandy rocketed a ball in, leaving him to lift it into the keeper's face.

With the last touch of the game Godbold shrugged off a defender and fired to Harper, who neatly spun the ball past the keeper.
