Thetford husband and wife team’s triathlon success

Charlotte and Simon Smith, husband and wife team from Thetford, joined other representatives of Thetford Athletics Club in a swim, cycle and run triathlon competition.

The Cambridgeshire event, the Ely Sprint Triathlon, involved competitors beginning with a swim of 300m, cycling over a 21-kilometre course and ending with a 5000 metre run.

Both Charlotte Smith and husband, Simon Smith, were victorious in their age categories with Charlotte also coming home as the second overall female competitor in a time of 1:08.38. Simon Smith finished as the fifth male overall whilst being the age group winner in a time of 1:02.11.

Louise White, racing in her first triathlon competition, finished in a highly creditable fifth place overall with a time of 1:14.57. Marion McCall, also a first-timer, was the eighth place female in a time of 1:17.17.

There was a time of 1:14.48 for Karl Wright, finishing in 23rd position with Richard Dolman just a few places further back in 27th place with a time of 1:16.20. Also running his first triathlon, Lukasz Ryzinsk finished in 38th place overall with a time of 1:20.32.
