CURRENT leaders Ian Farnham and Andrew Horsburgh retained pole position in Thetford Golf Club's Winter Foursomes by returning an excellent 41 points in the fifth round.

Chasing pair Norrie Dickson and Steve Bentley returned a sub-par 37 points but are still six points adrift of top spot.

David Sutton and Steve Campbell came in with 35 points to take third place on the day but remain outside the top four placings.

The Seniors Stableford was held on February 1.

Played on temporary greens and thus a non-qualifier, the competition still returned some acceptable scores with 26-handicapper Derek Stopps coming out on top with an excellent 39 points.

Second place went to early starter Gary Goodchild who must have thought his 38 points would be successful on the day, whilst third place went to consistent performer Bob McIntosh with 37 points.

The Division One and Two Stableford was held on February 7. Despite very cold conditions a field of some 34 members participated in this event.

Three handicapper, Patrick Smith led the field home with 35 points followed by Nolan Guthrie (11) with 34 points on countback from Brian Youngs playing off 12.

In the February Mid-Month Medal last Wednesday.

Nineteen handicapper John Chapman took first place with 39 points on countback from Richard Payton playing off 14 handicap, with John Shapland returning an excellent 36 points off his three handicap.

Meanwhile, Thetford Ladies proceeded into the second round of the Mail on Sunday competition on the toss of a coin.

Fortunately captain Joanne Cane called correctly, leaving opponents Richmond Park regretting both the weather conditions and their luck. An unfortunate outcome for both teams having had to change venues to get the match on and then finding the Thetford course unusually closed due to weather.

The club's pro-am report will appear in next week's Times.
