Thetford Men went nap against Harleston Magpies VI at the weekend.

Thetford were put under pressure from the start by the quick-passing Magpies squad but solid defending by Richard Smith ensured that little troubled the keeper.

A breakaway saw Godbold sneak round the back and square to Pandy to slap home.

Blower was unlucky moments later when an aerial ball from Snow was smashed at the keeper, only for him to tip around a post.

Blower turned provider after an excellent tackle in their D for Godbold to slot home.

Blower rounded off the half 3-0 up when the ball was poked past the keeper for him to roll home.

The second half was all Town

with some excellent play down the right-hand flank.

Snow provided another excellent aerial ball over the defence, the keeper committed at the top of the D so Godbold squared to Stavros to slot into the unoccupied goal.

A carbon copy happened moments later only for Stavros to punt wide in front of the empty goal.

Harper rounded off the proceedings by wrong-footing the keeper and nestling the ball in the near corner from the top of the D.

A STRONG start helped boost the away team into a better performance - but they could not match the harrying from the opposition.

Taking the first pass-back, Thetford were strong in their attack. Within minutes they were pushing the home team's defence hard.

Quick passing from left to right, especially between Karen Spiller and Tracey Newman, made for a great-looking hockey match.

It was precisely this pace that meant Kathy Hammond was able to push the goal home, after a strong hit to the goalkeeper rebounded into Hammond's open stick.

Dereham started to settle and both midfield line-ups clashed hard.

A short corner was converted for Dereham - and they followed with another quickly afterwards.

The second half was much the same, although Thetford had learned some lessons.

Sophie Kelly and Emma Nicholson were hard pressed and made some magnificent interceptions and visionary passes.

Dawn Heavey was in her element in the centre, tracking back and closing down play wherever possible. Dereham scored twice more. Heavey finished a superb short corner to put the score 4-2.

Rudling & Wakelam player-of-the-match: Karen Spiller.
