Thetford Town are hoping at last to be able to pull on their football boots and get a game on Saturday.

They have not yet played one game this year because of the big freeze, last weekend's home fixture against Downham Town the latest casualty.

On Saturday they are due to host Whitton who are ninth in the Ridgeons Division One table, two places above with three points more - although Thetford have a game in hand.

Thetford boss Mark Scott said: “I am optimistic if the lads show the character from previous games we will be absolutely fine. It is the first game this year - let's hope we can start with a win.

“We haven't played Whitton yet - they had had some mixed results so it's a tricky one. The last time we played we drew with Yarmouth but there has been quite a break since then.

“We're relatively confident but they have some good players - it's up to us really, what attitude we have.

“It's a home game and we have become very hard to beat at home,” he added.

The last time Thetford played, way back on December 29, they held leaders Yarmouth to a draw.

Fixtures against Diss and Downham have been postponed this year and the problem was exacerbated by not having an indoor facility in which to train.

“We will certainly be training twice this week in preparation for the game.” said Scott. “We are confident of securing an indoor venue for the future but we will be all right on our pitch this week.”
