Thetford turned in a dominant display on Saturday to end any fears about being dragged into a relegation dogfight in Division One of the Norfolk Alliance.

They cruised to a 10-wicket victory over Norwich A after bowling them out for just 60, with Chris White claiming an impressive six wicket haul.

With bottom two Mattishall and Lowestoft both losing heavily Town are now 55 points clear of the drop zone with just four matches left to play, and will go into Saturday’s clash with leaders Diss at Mundford Road in good heart as they look to cement a mid-table finish.

With four successive defeats having seen them drop to fourth from bottom in the table Thetford needed a good performance against a Norwich side who started the day just below them - and they certainly produced one.

The hosts won the toss at Ingham and opted to bat first and it proved to be a disastrous decision.

With White taking 6-16 in just five overs and Lewis Greyson weighing in with 2-13 Norwich were bowled out in just 25.2 overs, with only two batsmen reaching double figures.

The swift demolition job took the weather factor out of the game, with rain expected in the early evening, and Thetford went on to complete the win off the opening ball of the eighth over to ensure a maximum haul of 25 points.

Liam Conroy and Neil Lockwood were the men to see the visitors home, finishing unbeaten on 32 and 22 respectively.

Thetford A won a close game at home against bottom side Ashmanhaugh and Barton Wanderers A in Division Six.

After winning the toss the visitors chose to bat first and posted a respectable score of 194-7 off the reduced allocation of 35 overs.

Rain threatened to spoil the day but Thetford chased down the total off their final ball for the loss of five wickets, with the weather closing in just after the finish.

An excellent knock of 98 from opener Darren Newey, assisted by Daniel Greyson (32), set up the win before father and son Jason and Mitch Plumpton guided their side home.
