Over a dozen volunteers (pictured) descended on Thetford Town Cricket Club to take part in the Natwest Cricketforce event, an ECB initiative designed to improve facilities for grass-roots clubs.

Dodging the occasional heavy shower, club members joined forces to complete a number of jobs including sightscreen painting, net preparation, square rolling, outfield cutting, debris clearance, litter picking and cabin cleaning, all in preparation for the 2010 season.

Clubhouse manager Pat Sparkes said: “The turnout of club members was very good, enabling us to fulfil the majority of planned tasks in good time. The Cricketforce event proved to be an effective means of giving the club facilities some required pre-season attention.

“I am pleased with the team effort and the end result and would like to extend our thanks to local companies Pearsons and Thetford Autoparts, who were kind enough to lower their prices for materials we needed for the event.”

The club is now looking forward to using the improved facilities during the forthcoming season which starts on April 25 for the Sunday team and May 1 for the two Saturday teams. If anybody is interested in playing cricket for Thetford, call Darren Newey on 01842 820165.
