Thetford Town wrapped up their Ridgeons League season on Saturday with a good win, and manager Mark Scott is predicting a bright future for the team.

Thetford Town wrapped up their Ridgeons League season on Saturday with a good win, and manager Mark Scott is predicting a bright future for the team.

He said: “We finished in 11th position with 43 points, which I am informed is the best finish Thetford have had for 11 seasons, so I am very pleased considering the start we had.

“I am proud of the lads. It has been tough but I believe we have got the beginnings of a good side for next year - it gives us the platform to build on for next season.”

There will be pre-season friendlies against Premier Division champions Needham Market, Norwich United and hopefully Norwich City, he added.

At the weekend Town finished their Division One season with a 3-1 win over visitors Halstead, whom they had drawn 0-0 against in the reverse fixture.

“It was very good,” said Scott. “They are a strong side so I'm very pleased with that result. It was 0-0 at half-time then Matthew Howard got the first, Matt Dixon made it 2-0, they scored, and then Simon Mann got the third.”

He added that Howard had also got the ball in the net with a 28-yard screamer but, disappointingly, the referee had blown the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Thetford's Ridgeons Divison One rivals Swaffham finished the season three places below them on 35 points.

In their last game on Friday night, the Pedlars beat Team Bury 4-1 in an exciting game with goals by Kyle Plumb, Richard Cornwall, Nathan Clark and Andrew Hunter.
