Thetford Athletics Club’s under-15 boys team qualified to compete in the National Cross Country Relay Championships at Berry Hill Park in Mansfield and produced a noteworthy performance against England’s best young athletes.

The team, consisting of Aiden Try, Tom Mead and Harley Swan, finished well inside the top third achieving 21st place out of the 74 teams who fielded a complete line-up of three runners with each athlete completing a 2km leg.

Try opened the race for Thetford, running the first leg in a time of 6:39.8mins, handing over to Mead in 26th position.

Mead then completed the 2km second leg in 7:08.5 with Swan beginning the final leg in 27th place. Swan pulled back several places during his 6:42.9 leg with the team finishing in 21st place in a combined time of 20:31.2.

The race was eventually won by Bracknell AC in a time of 19:12.7. The fastest individual leg was achieved by Oliver Rouse of Charnwood AC who completed the two-kilometre course in a time of 6:15.05.
