Four Thetford athletes competed against the region’s best young athletes in the Eastern Counties Track and Field Championships at the Cambridge University’s Wilberforce Road track.

Aiden Try ran a personal best in the Under-15s 1,500m, finishing in the silver medal position with a time of 4:27.09, beaten only by Cambridge and Coleridge’s Jamie Sales in a time of 4:21.28. Harley Swan also secured a silver medal when he too ran a personal best time of 2:10.33 in the U15s 800m with Ipswich Harrier’s Joshua Hulse crossing the line ahead of him in 2:00.32. Swan also gained a bronze medal in the 300m sprint, completing the race in a time of 42.81 seconds.

Jessica Norkett ran a personal best of 31.14sec in the U13 200m sprint on her way to fifth place. Norkett made it a second PB of the day when running into sixth position in the 800m in a time of 2:41.65. Thetford’s sole U13 boy taking part was Cameron Try and he threw a personal best of 6.48m to finish in fourth place in the shot put competition. Try then sprinted into sixth position in the 100m with a time of 16.14sec.

Elsewhere, there was an impressive run from Thetford’s Tom Mead at the latest of the Watford Open Graded Meetings. Mead chalked up another personal best time when clocking 4:43.57 to finish in third place in heat seven of the 1,500m.
