Three Thetford AC athletes were in action whilst representing Team Norfolk during the latest round of the Youth Development League in Crawley.

This high level competition for U17 and U20 athletes pitches the best young Norfolk athletes against those from Crawley, Harrow, Stevenage, Chelmsford and Dorset.

Relegated last year into South Premier Two Division, Norfolk started the season in fine form, looking to immediately bounce back with a comfortable victory at the first meeting of the season in Harrow. They completed the job early, gaining promotion at Crawley with one round left to complete next week at home in Norwich.

Thetford U17 Aiden Try got the ball rolling with a fourth place in the 400m whilst competing in the age group up against the U20 athletes, running to a personal best time of 54.75sec. Try then won the U17 B-string triple jump with a leap of 10.85m.

There was a third place for U17 Joseph Nicolson in the hammer with a distance of 43.20m and 27.62m was good enough for fourth in the discus.

U20 Mia Browne finished second in the hammer with a distance of 34.34m. Browne went on to win the U20 B-string shot put with a throw of 6.42m followed by a season’s best throw of 24.50m to finish second in the discus competition.

Jordan Turner finished in second place in the U20s hammer throw with a distance of 33.49m and he also finished second in the discus, throwing 18.92m.

Team Norfolk now have the opportunity to round off their season in style with a final flourish on home soil at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich this Sunday. With promotion to South Premier One guaranteed, Team Norfolk will be facing the likes of Blackheath and Bromley Harriers and Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers during next season’s even tougher competition.
