An already promoted Team Norfolk were determined to finish the Youth Development League season in style on home turf.
Teams from Crawley, Stevenage, Chelmsford, Harrow and Dorset converged on the UEA Sportspark in Norwich for the final round of competition that was to officially secure Team Norfolk’s place in the Premier One South Division next season.
Thetford’s Joseph Nicholson was victorious in the U17 hammer throw competition, winning the event with a throw of 45.25m.
Jordan Turner’s personal best throw of 37.06m saw him secure third position in the U20 hammer throw event.
U17 runner, Aiden Try, was just a quarter of a second shy of his personal best when completing the 400m in 55.03 seconds to finish the ‘A-string’ race in fifth position whilst Harley Swan finished second in the ’B-string’ race in a time of 57.52 seconds. Aiden Try then competed in the 800m race, finishing the ‘A-string’ event in third place with a time of 2:12.8 whilst Swan raced in the 1500m, coming home in first place with a time of 4:23.3. Try was also part of the Norfolk 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m teams, finishing third and first respectively.
Team Norfolk’s plan to end the season in style was achieved with the team finishing their home leg on top with 640 points, ahead of Crawley who finished in second place with 575 points. The final league totals see Team Norfolk topping the table by some way on 2492 points with Crawley, again in second place, on 2315 points. Those results should be good enough to see both Team Norfolk and Crawley promoted into Premier One South division next season with third-placed Stevenage some way back on 1871 points.
• Thetford Athletics Club had several members take part in the Culford Triathlon, made up of a 300-metre pool swim, 21km bike and 4km run.
