Aiden Try flew the flag of Thetford AC at the England Athletics Under-15 and Under-17 National Championships at the Bedford International Athletics Arena.
Having reached the nationally accepted qualifying time for the 1500m of 4.30mins during the course of the season, with a run of 4:27.09 at the Eastern Counties Championships back in June, Try was eligible to face the very best U15 athletes across the UK in the national competition.
The 25 competitors in the 1500m were divided up into two heats with Try competing in the first, and fastest, of these.
As expected in a race of this nature, the pace was fast with the leading group of eight athletes, including Try, going through the first 400m lap around five seconds faster than he would normally do over this distance.
After two laps, Try remained in contention, however that early pace set by the leading athletes proved too strong and a group of five finally broke away with the heat eventually won in a blistering 4:16.67 by Callum Abberley of Burton Athletics Club.
Try came home in a time of 4:34.98 which was the 21st fastest time out of the 25 athletes competing across both heats. The 1,500m final was won by heat two winner, Hayden Bailey of Team Bath, in a time of 4:08.07.
