Thetford Town after a mixed start to the Ridgeons League Division One season, with one win and one defeat, turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend.

Thetford led the way in the Division One table on Saturday after a 3-0 win over March but then lost by the same scorline at home against Diss on Tuesday.

This Saturday, Town travel to Whitton United in the FA Cup, 3pm kick-off, writes Viv Thomas. Then on Tuesday, Town entertain Gorleston in the league (kick-off 7.45pm).

Thetford manager Mark Scott said the 3-0 win over March Town United was a measure of the progress of his new squad that it was such a comfortable win over a side which had done the double over Town the previous season.

“Very good start, wasn't it,” he laughed. “It puts us top of the league, it's a new feeling for us.

“It's very pleasing just to have the result. Our feet are firmly on the floor - we have had a great start but have got a lot more to do. Our ambition is top six and I think we can achieve that,” he added.

March had a player sent off when Thetford were 2-0 up thanks to Andrew Wood and Aaron Piggott. Then in the second half Danny Tanti wrapped up victory.

Scott said the score could have been six if a Matt Dixon penalty and several one-on-ones had been converted. “But overall, it was a very pleasing performance,” he added.

March Town United 0, Thetford Town 3

THETFORD Town travelled to March Town for their first league game of the season and it was the Town keeper who had the first touch of the ball with an early effort, writes Bob Richards.

Town took the lead on four minutes when good work from Clayton found Dixon whose pass to Wood saw him score from close range.

Town dominated and a good cross from Tanti on eight minutes saw Piggott head wide. March countered but it was Town looking dangerous on the break and Dixon missed a good chance on 11 minutes from a good ball by Joseph. Town increased their lead on 13 minutes when a Tanti cross was met by Piggott who cut in to beat the keeper.

On 23 minutes March were reduced to 10 men.

Town, in control, should have added more goals and did on 40 minutes when Tanti headed over the line.

In the second half March came at Town early on and Jackson in the Town goal dealt well with the shots fired at him.

Town should have increased their lead when they were awarded a penalty which was saved from Dixon.

Town then had good chances to increase their lead but misses and good saves from the March keeper, with shots from Armes and Scott in the closing minutes being saved, saw Town collect a comfortable three points.
