THETFORD Town continued their fine run of form with a 2-2 draw with league leaders Cambridge University Press.

Town should have taken the lead in the opening minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Dixon.

But Dixon stepped up and hit the post and the ball was cleared. Town threatened again but Cambridge dangerous on the counter attack gave the Town defence something to think about.

Cambridge took the lead on 10 minutes when a forward was given room to shoot past Bowden.

Town countered but went further behind on 20 minutes. Town pulled a goal back on 25 minutes when a free-kick from the hard-working Jones found Dixon who guided a headed goal pass the keeper.

The half finished with play going from end to end.

Town came out in the second half looking to draw level and playing some nice football started to pressure the Cambridge defence, O’Donnell went close with a header.

Town controlled long periods of the second half but could not apply the final finish with Blake dangerous down the left a constant threat.

Cambridge had their moments but it was Town who equalised on 85 minutes when good work from Joseph saw his cross met by the head of Dixon to give Town a well deserved point.

Last Tuesday night Thetford beat derby rivals Swaffham 2-1.

An enjoyable first league derby this season encounter saw Thetford take the spoils.

Swaffham had a depleted side and lost Daren Hockton in the pre-match warm-up.

Thetford started strongly but the Pedlars settled and neither keeper was particularly tested.

The game turned early in the second half, beating the offside trap, the effort hitting the post leaving a tap-in for the follow up.

Swaffham’s equaliser came in the 68th minute, a great run by Jake Platten, laying off to Matthew Parkinson to provide service to Richard Cornwall, who vollied in.

Thetford responded, getting the winner in the 74th minute.

The final quarter of an hour, the Pedlars threw all they had at Thetford’s keeper Dean Mayes making the journey to his opposing box for free kicks on two occasions but the deserved equaliser was not to be found.

The under 18s entertain Framlingham Town on Monday, 7.45pm.
