Thetford athletes achieved a strong medals haul at the Norfolk County Track and Field Championships.

The two-day event took place at the University of East Anglia’s Sportspark in Norwich and is the annual opportunity for the county’s best athletes to test their skill against their counterparts from other Norfolk clubs.

In a hotly contested 800m race, 16 of Norfolk’s best Under 17s battled it out over the two laps of the track. Thetford Athletics Club secured both gold and silver medal positions with Harley Swan coming out on top, racing to a personal best performance of 2:06.1 with Aiden Try also completing the course in a PB of 2:07.5 for second position. Both Swan and Try had also competed in the 1500m race with Try finishing in sixth place and Swan in seventh. Joseph Nicolson secured the gold medal in the U17 Hammer competition with a best throw of the day of 41.99m.

There was a double silver medal for U15 Jessica Norkett following an impressive second place in the 300m sprint with Norkett racing to a PB of 46.5 seconds. Her second silver medal of the day came in the Triple Jump competition where Norkett leapt to a personal best of 9.11m. Daniel Clouston medalled in silver position with a personal best time of 2:06 in the U11 600m. Isabel Smythe was victorious in the U11 600m, running a time of 1:58.7. Smythe also finished in bronze medal position in the 150m sprint with a PB of 23.6 seconds.
