Over 300 runners from all over East Anglia converged in Croxton on Bank Holiday Monday to compete in the annual Breckland 10k road race organised by Thetford Athletics Club.

After a scenic run from the centre of the village through forest-lined roads, the first man to cross the finish line was Wesley Benton, from Sudbury Joggers, in 33:15. He was almost a minute ahead of the second-placed man, Robert Chenery (Ipswich Jaffa).

The first lady home was Jane Clarke (City of Norwich AC) in 38:33 and in second place Kim Lo (Haywards Heath Harriers) with a time of 39:24.

Immediately after the start of the main race, a fun run for the junior athletes saw over 50 children from four to 16 put in a huge effort up the hill out of Croxton and enjoy a more relaxed downhill finish, with a great deal of encouragement and support from the roadside crowds.

They were all rewarded with medals and treats for their enthusiasm and effort.

The race was once again generously sponsored by local building society, Norwich and Peterborough.
