On a windy but fine day Peter Balls, of West Suffolk Wheelers, set a new course record in the 50-mile time trial promoted by Cycling Club Breckland on Sunday.

Using sections of the A11 in the Besthorpe, Browick, Attleborough area with the head quarters at Morley, Balls recorded a time of 1-47:43, breaking the previous best time set by K Platts of Cambridge CC last year by 47 seconds.

With two of their riders finishing in second and third place, Stowmarket and District Cycling Club took the team award with Lee Bank's 1-50:44 and Andrew Leggett's 1-51:21 together with third counter A Townsend's 2-17:52 giving a team time of 5-58:57 seconds.

Breckland's Laura Robinson turned in a super time of 2-04.49, taking the fastest woman award and coming 15th overall, while club-mate Chris Nudds was ninth in 1-59:06.

Other Breckland times were Alan Stevenson 2-05:59, Nick Parravani 2-11:02, and Tony Reynolds 2-12:35.

There was a field of 18 riders for the last of the evening club events including three tandems.

Fastest overall was G Muller 11:56, B De'ath 12:01, I Dawson 12:46, K Price 13:26, I Doe 14:48, P Cross 14:59, M Badham 15:55, S Penney 18:05, Juvenile A Cross 12:42 and E Davis 16:35 with tandems D Saunders, D Davis 13:26, A Holland and G Moore 29:12, P Hewitt and P Barbary 21:37.
