Smythe shines for Thetford AC at Eastern Athletics Championships

Thetford Athletics Club’s Joe Smythe came home a double-medallist from the Eastern Athletics Championships at the Wilberforce Road track in Cambridge.
Smythe took home the silver medal in both the Under-13 long jump, jumping a personal best of 4.55m, and the U13 800m race, running a personal best of 2:24.18.
Jessica Webb was amongst a handful of other U13s representing Thetford at the event, finishing ninth in the 100m sprint with a time of 15.4. Webb also finished sixth in the 200m in a time of 32.52.
Maddie Rolph ran a PB in the 200m, her time of 32.73 earning her seventh place. Rolph then ran an impressive time of 2:48.4 to achieve a PB when coming home sixth in the 800m.
Aiden Try ran a PBof 4:40.3 to come home seventh in the U15 1500m. Three Thetford athletes battled it out in the 800m race with Harley Swan finishing fifth with a time of 2:22.19, followed in sixth by Charlie Stone, smashing his PB with a time of 2:26.34. Kieran Moody finished in ninth with a time of 2:30.91.
Stone also competed in the 200m, finishing fifth in his first round heat with a PB of 27.12.
Despite also finishing fifth in the other first round heat, Sam Rolph’s time of 26.49 was fast enough to earn him the final fastest loser slot in the 200m final. He then finished seventh in the final with an almost identical time of 26.59. There was also a seventh-placed finish in the 100m for Rolph, running a PB of 13 seconds flat.

Abbie Ruggles competed in the U20 women’s 200m event, finishing sixth in 28.69. Ruggles then ran a season’s best of 62.52 to finish fourth in the 400m.
Meanwhile at other events, Thetford athletes Aiden, Cameron and Sharon Try competed much further afield in Scotland when they took part in the Eglinton Parkrun, near Kilmarnock.
Aiden finished 24th with a time of 20:48 and was the first competitor in the 11-14 age category. Sharon crossed the line in 133rd place with a time of 33.01 and Cameron completed the course in 33.15.
