Ipswich & ES 1, Thetford 2

THETFORD Town travelled to Ipswich & East Suffolk for an early-morning hockey fixture and were caught napping in the first half.

Town went a goal down midway through the first half when a short corner was saved several times by Avery only for a persistent Ipswich forward to slot home.

This gave Thetford the kick they needed and they started to string some fluid passes together. Several fouls on Godbold and Snow led to Town receiving some short corners in their favour and a good strike by McMurtary saw the keeper pull off a fine save only for Blower to slot home.

This was by no means a pretty game of hockey but strong tackling from Harper ensured that the midfield was kept contained and enabled the forwards to probe at the Ipswich defence.

Thetford were rewarded with a short corner with minutes remaining and a personal battle ensued between Godbold and the keeper after the keeper pulled off three fine saves only for the ball to trickle home.

Final score: 2-1 win to Thetford.

Thetford entertain top-of-the-league Cranes at home 3pm next week.
