TWO Saxons swim teams, made up from top swimmers from both Mildenhall and Newmarket swimming clubs, did exceptionally well last weekend to finish third with their A team in Division One and fourth with the B team in Division Two of the Suffolk Winter Swimming League.

TWO Saxons swim teams, made up from top swimmers from both Mildenhall and Newmarket swimming clubs, did exceptionally well last weekend to finish third with their A team in Division One and fourth with the B team in Division Two of the Suffolk Winter Swimming League.

The A team were inspired by a fine opening win by Alaina Scifo in the 50m 11 year old backstroke, clocking 35.32 and taking double points with the girls' joker card being played.

Ben Jamieson matched this win for the U11 boys, taking a fine pb along the way in the backstroke, doubling his success later by winning the 50m freestyle in some style. Alex Fussey took a close second and pb in the 100m breaststroke, Bradden Westlake a close second in the U13 fly with 1:18.13. Megan Taylor kept the pbs coming with a fine 1:16.77 in the U15 100m back, followed by a great pb for Abby Vine in the 100 fly.

Saxons took some superb placings in the relays, the boys' junior team coming in a clear first for maximum team points. Further fine swims and top placings came from Maya Westlake in the U11 breaststroke with 43.01 and 50m fly with 36.01, Ashley Trent with 46.26 for breaststroke, Annoushka Ramdeen with 1:15.96 for U15 100m back, Adam Kemp with a pb 1:16.11 for U15 breaststroke and Hannah Reeder with an impressive second place for the girls.

Final result: 1st Deben A 223, 2nd Stowmarket A 183, 3rd Saxons A 172, 4th Sudbury A 139, 5th Deben B 117 points.

The Saxons B team were equally impressive, Molly Reeder taking a close second with 37.56 in the 50 back, Ben Delgado hitting first place with a pb 40.16 for the boys, later hitting a pb 39.34 for 50m fly too, Lauren Mc Givern clocked a brilliant 1:30.97 in the U13 breaststroke, Matt Hogg matching this with yet another pb for the boys. Parris White swam a superb 100m freestyle in the U15 age group and Grace Colasante a smooth 35.21 in U11 freestyle.

Nine-year-old Dominic Scifo swam up brilliantly in the U11 free to win with an awesome 33.40. Lydia Smith and Zak Ollington both hit pbs in the U13 fly, followed by an impressive Sam Nelson clocking 1:17.28 in the U15 100m backstroke.

The pbs and quality placings just kept coming, Pippa Palmer with 46.91 for U11 breaststroke, Matt Molyneux in the U15 100m breaststroke, Tom Russell with a fine first in 100m fly, Josh Pettican coming back to form with second in the open backstroke and both Max White and Helen Moss taking fine pbs in the open 100m freestyle.

Final result: Stowmarket B and Beccles A tied for first place, Yarmouth were next with Saxons B a close fourth and Sudbury B fifth.
