SAHAM Toney got their season to a good start by dominating a winning draw against Swardeston B and beating Bungay in the first round of the Carter Cup.

After being put into bat against Swardeston, in Division Two of the Lovewell Blake Norfolk Alliance, Saham rattled up 247-5 off their 46 overs.

The innings was built around a 140 second wicket partnership between A Wood who scored an excellent 85 and M Thomas who wighed in with 58.

Other contributions came from G Maxwell 39 and D Fahy 28 not out whilst T Smart scored a quick fire 16 at the end as Saham Toney set an imposing total.

D Reynolds was the most successful home bowler claiming 3-32 off his nine overs.

In response Swardeston found runs hard to come by and were well behind the run rate and could only muster 104-8 off their 46 overs.

T Smart claimed an early wicket and finished with very economical figures of 1-18 from his 10 overs.

The remaining seven wickets were shared between G Maxwell 12-4-14-4 and I Lovick 10-2-32-3.

Unfortunately, the overs ran out before Saham could claim an outright victory.

The following day Saham entertained Bungay in the Carter Cup and eased into the next round with an eight wicket victory.

Bungay batted first and were only able to muster 79 all out.

After an early wicket from W Dyer 1-21, G Maxwell 8-5-18-4 and I Lovick 8.1-2-16-5 continued from where they had left off the day before against Swardeston and claimed the remaining Bungay wickets between them.

Despite the loss of two early wickets Saham reached their victory target thanks mainly to 55 not out from S Mower.

Saham continue their league season this week when entertaining Horsford A at Pages Lane.
