In the West Norfolk Billiards League, Narborough head the table from Downham Cons who had a bye this week. Good wins from Peter Crisp, Johnny Mitchell and Alan Durrant secured the result.

West Acre got there first win of the season away to Gaywood B 2-1. Tony Abel and Phillip Welham won for West Acre, Welham knocking in the leagues highest break to date 91 he also scored a 67. Dan Westwood won for Gaywood B, beating Ryan Jackson.

Results: Gaywood B 1, West Acre 2; Narborough 3, Gaywood A 0.

County Grandmasters Championships: Maltings and Gaywood Cons’ John Hayhoe won the championships for the first time when competing at Norwich’s Broadland Snooker Centre. In the semi-finals Hayhoe defeated St Faiths’ Geoff Smith 276-206 before beating Norwich’s Allen Cheetham in the final 278-187.

Cheetham had reached the final by defeating Hethersett’s Mervyn Tuffield 186-161 in a very close game.

Gaywood’s Colin Bean did well to reach the Plate final where he lost to Overstrand’s Ian Dennis 129-84, earlier the Gaywood man had scored an excellent win over five times Norfolk champion Fos Wilson (Chedgrave).

Swaffham Veterans’ Billiards League: Thetford Oddballs still lead however West Acre are know only two points behind after a good 3-0 home win over Swaffham Cons.

John Hayhoe produced a nice 32 break for the Cons however Mick Miles late 29 break just saw him achieve victory for Acre. Tony Abel secured the win for the home side. Oddballs defeated Thetford Cons 2-1 at home to remain top.

Results: West Acre 3, Swaffham Cons 0; Thetford Oddballs 2, Thetford Cons 1.

Narbeck Boys’ Billiards League:Gaywood Cons still lead the league despite the cancellation of their latest game with Narborough A. West Acre D, C and A are all close behind.

This week saw a succession of excellent performances in the two games played at West Acre Club.

Firstly Acre C defeated Acre B 2-1, Ryan Jackson for the home side scored a great total of 104 when defeating Jack Easter, however the performance of the week was without doubt by 10-year-old Jake Loane who scored an excellent total of 78 points when beating Rochy Woods, who herself set a season’s personal best of 48.

This was a new personal best for Jake, who really is ‘one to watch’ in the world of junior billiards.

However, captain James Eyre won the game for the C team by winning his final match.

West Acre A defeated newcomers West Acre D 2-1, Bruce Welham played some very nice billiards to score a 32 break and record a good 30 minute total of 187, these being the leagues highest break and scores respectively to date.

Jack Howling got the D teams soul win, recording a new personal best score of 39.

Results: West Acre A 2, West Acre D 1; West Acre B 1, West Acre C 2.
