Richmond Park Golf Club Seniors held their Mad March Hare singles competition on a foggy day at the beginning of the month.

The format was unusual in that players recorded their first nine holes as a medal score, deducting their half handicaps, and played the second nine as a Stableford – again with the relevant handicaps by holes. The Stableford score minus the medal score gave the final result.

The winner was Gerry Knox with Peter Sales runner-up followed by Keith Betterton in third. Nearest-the-pin on the third hole was Rod Wyatt while Gerry Knox was again in the prizes as nearest on the 13th,

Richmond Park Golf Club Seniors played their annual Ryder Cap Trophy match last week.

This is a challenge between teams led by the Captain (David Palmer) and the vice-Captain (John Crowdy). The match was over two days with 15 sets of four playing pairs on the first day followed by singles a couple of days later. Scoring was matchplay with two points for a win and one for a half. For the first time ever, the result was a tie at 19 points each. It was agreed that as the holders (the Captain’s team) had not lost, they should retain the trophy.
