Brandon Ladies put in a terrific team performance away at Sudbury in the semi-final of the Suffolk Women’s League Cup losing out on penalties after extra time.

The home side started the stronger taking the game to Brandon but the early pressure was soaked up by the hard-working Brandon defence and midfield. Chances started to open up at both ends with neither side finding the finish needed. Smith was in excellent form in the Brandon goal pulling off some really good saves. As the game progressed Brandon stared to control the game although the lively Sudbury front line always looked a threat. With 10 minute remaining Brandon looked to have made the break through after a Burr-Walpole shot from 25 yards came off the bar for Tomlinson who reacted quickest to blast into the net after giving the goal a late flag went up and it pulled back for offside. Brandon looked the most likely to score in extra-time and a last minute corner saw the ball go narrowly wide taking the game into a dreaded penalty shoot-out. All square after five each it went to sudden death with Sudbury coming out on top. Brandon travel to Sudbury again next week for a top-of-the-table league fixture.
