THE latest Thetford Golf Club Pro-Am event was held recently.

Unfortunately due to the early morning frost, play had to be on winter greens, however a good field of 100 players took part.

Lee Patterson, pro at Royal Cromer, won the professional medal with a score of 70, two under par.

His round was scattered with five birdies in total, including three in his last four holes.

In second place was Abbotsley pro Steve Connolly, who managed four birdies in a one under par, 71.

In third place was Neil Lythgoe who will be slightly disappointed to shoot 72, which included uncharacteristic lapses with four bogeys in six holes between the sixth and 11th holes.

In the Pro-Am event, Steve Connolly turned the tables on Lee Patterson with a score of 43 points, playing alongside his amateur, Paul Izzard.

This was Steve's second win in a row, after also winning January's event.

With four birdies on Steve's card, three handicapper, Paul made a strong contribution with four of his own.

They made just one bogey on the treacherous winter green of the short 16th hole.

Pushed back into second were, Lee Patterson and Tony Matless who were also ruing a bogey on the par three, 11th hole, towards the end of their round.

Neil Mitchell and home player, David Ball just made too many bogeys on their way to third place on 41 points.

Finally, in the amateur-only section, Ian Carter and Gerry Day took the top prize. Gerry got his pair off to the best possible start on the 14th hole with a three nett two for four points followed by a Carter birdie on the 15th for another three points.

A bogey on the near impossible 16th followed, but normal service was resumed with a birdie on 17 for Carter and a nett birdie on the 18th for Day.

The pair's strong start allowed for two more bogeys in the rest of the round as they took their score onto 42 points to win by one shot.

There were three pairs just one point behind on 41 and out of these, John

Yuill and Randy Reynolds, a pair made up just the day before, took second place on countback from Tom Rothery and Adam Harper.

The new pairing of Yuill and Reynolds hit it off immediately and were six under par after just nine holes.

Unfortunately, the magic soon went and the remaining nine holes were completed in one over par.

This month's event is on March 18 and is already over-subscribed.
