TWO members of Cycling Club Breckland, Ken Price and Don Saunders, together with second claim member Peer Fox, set out last Saturday morning to ride an Audax event which took them from Alfreton in Nottinghamshire to Skegness and back.

Advertised as a 301 km route (nearly 200 miles in imperial terms), the first control point at Newark was passed on the way to the second control at Woodhall Spa and then on to Skegness.

There was no stopping for a paddle in the sea when the trio then returned to the finish check in Horncastle having successfully completed their mission well within the allotted time limit of 13-and-a-quarter hours.

Seemingly improving every week, young Adam Cross beat the rest of the his club-mates in the 10 miles midweek club event based at Tuddenham to finish second overall to Geoff Bateman (Anglia Velo), who had a winning time of 23 minutes and 44 seconds.

Declan Davis was highly delighted to finish in a personal best time of 25:25 when he stoked his grandfather Don Saunders round the course on their tandem.

Beating club-mate Mark Fairhead by five seconds, Adam Cross finished in 24:54, Ken Price in 26:06, Paul Hoggett 28:34 and Paul Cross 29:51.
