Mundford's firsts opened their Lovewell Blake Norfolk Alliance Division Two campaign in spectacular style at home to 2007 Division One side Kirkley & Lowestoft Railway.

In the home side, Mundford welcomed Australian recruit McColl, Keiron Long back from 2nd XI pastures, new recruit Steve Gathercole and ex-county wicketkeeper Matt Gooderham into their side for the opening match of this season's campaign..

There had been rain and wet weather all week long at Fir Close but the sun was to shine come Saturday morning as Mundford looked to start their season in style, against a team which had lost several players during the summer following last season's relegation.

After Kirkley's skipper called incorrectly at the toss, home captain Bailey had no hesitation in inserting his lofty opponents to bat.

What was to happen over the four hours was to surpass even his or vice-captain Allsop's highest expectations.

New ball pairing of Yates and Grady ripped through the visitors' top order like a burning sword.

And they were aided by Buster Yates' two wickets for six in six overs thanks to good catching from A Bailey and Gooderham matched by Grady's 2-17 from 11 pacey overs of his own.

Magic man Allsop was to pick up a wicket with his first league delivery straight after drinks.

Bailey was to remove the stubborn J Pavier for 20 then grab two more in nine deliveries without conceding a run as the visitors' batting capitulated.

Pavier was the top scorer for the visitors, with 20 followed by the extras total on 18 as no-one else managed to get into double figures.

And McColl was to be given his first league bowling spell with 10 economical overs as Kirkley could only muster 68.

Mundford's reply was to be short and sweet with Gooderham (28 no) and McColl (41 no) reaching the victory total in just 10.1 overs.

Bigger tests will come but Mundford have started the season in near perfect fashion and picked up 20 points for the ten wicket victory, while their vanquished opponents ended the match with no points to show for their efforts.
